The Wayzata Bay Wreck National Register Nomination is the culmination of maritime historical and nautical archaeological research efforts by Maritime Heritage Minnesota. This nomination used the newly-created "The Wrecks and Submerged Cultural Resources of Lake Minnetonka, Minnesota (BC 9500 - AD 1965)" Multiple Property Documentation Form as a guideline. The Wayzata Bay Wreck is the oldest known wreck currently identified on the bottom of Lake Minnetonka. She is a rare model barge, is the best preserved of 3 known model barge wrecks in the United States, and was owned and operated by James J. Hill, owner of the Great Northern Railway. Funded by a Minnesota Historical and Cultural Heritage Grant, part of the Arts and Cultural heritage Fund of the Clean Water, Land and Legacy Amendment.
